St. Francis earns national recognition for excellence in stroke care

Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic facilities, including Saint Francis Healthcare in Wilmington, has been recognized by the American Heart Association for high-quality care for stroke and cardiac patients throughout the region. Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic earned these awards by reaching specific criteria set forth by the American Heart Association to improve care and health outcomes for patients experiencing stroke or heart attack.

“Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic is proud to be recognized by the American Heart Association for our commitment to providing compassionate, top-notch care to the communities we serve,” said Jim Woodward, president and CEO of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic in a statement. “This recognition underscores the excellent patient-centered care our communities have come to expect at our facilities. Should a member of one of our communities face an emergency event such as a heart attack or stroke, our skilled physicians and medical staff stand ready to treat patients using the latest guidelines, treatments and commitments to safety.”

Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic facilities earned the following awards from the American Heart Association:

    • Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus

Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke is a program that recognizes hospitals’ commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines. Each Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic hospital has achieved the Gold Award, which is awarded to hospitals that have 24 consecutive months or more of continued success in applying the most up-to-date, evidence-based treatment guidelines to improve patient care and outcomes in the community.

The Target: Stroke recognition is earned by providers that have met quality measures developed to reduce the time between an ischemic stroke patient’s arrival to the hospital and treatment with tPA, a drug used to treat ischemic stroke.
