Nueces County reports 506 new COVID-19 cases, 10 deaths

Nueces County reported 96 new COVID-19 cases and two related deaths on Saturday.

The new cases bring the total to 17,948. The new cases are considered still under investigation to determine their transmission type. 

Of the new cases, 83 were confirmed cases and 11 were probable cases. There have been 14,446 confirmed and 3,502 probable cases since the onset of the pandemic. 

Of the new cases, 43 were reported to Nueces County by the State of Texas-DSHS for hte dates August 14-19. Also on Saturday, the county reported that 12 positive cases are from the Coastal Bend Detention Center in rural Nueces County.

Nueces County reported two new COVID-19 related deaths Saturday afternoon, bringing the total to 308.

The patients were two women, with one in her 70s and one in her 80s. Their pre-existing medical conditions included hypertension, congestive heart failure and diabetes, a release from the county said.

There have been 859 hospitalizations. There are currently 209 in the hospital and 73 in the ICU.

There have been 9,600 recoveries.

The city of Corpus Christi website gives a breakdown of COVID-19 cases in the county. The genders are not included in the age range breakdown on the website.

  • Community transmission —  17,601
  • Under investigation — 94
  • Probable positive — 3,502 (new: 11)

  • Hospitalized — 859
  • Currently in hospital — 209

  • Recovered — 9,600

* The number of people recovered will not be subtracted from the total number of cases, officials have said.
