Nueces County reports 436 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths

Nueces County reported 351 new COVID-19 cases and two related deaths on Saturday.

The new cases bring the county’s total to 16,878. There are 8,469 active cases. They are still under investigation to determine their transmission.

The data reports 304 were confirmed positives and 47 were probable positives. There have been a total of 13,577 confirmed positives and 3,301 probable positives.

Of the new cases, 293 positives were provided by the Texas Dept. of State Health Services to the Nueces County Health Department on Saturday.

The additional cases were reported directly from April through August and have been added into the overall reporting of COVID-19 statistics for Nueces County.

The county reported two new COVID-19-related deaths Saturday afternoon, bringing the total to 279.

The two patients were a man and a woman, with one in his or her 80s and one in his or her 90s. Pre-existing conditions included hypertension and diabetes.

There have been 810 hospitalizations; 229 are currently in the hospital. There are 85 in the intensive care unit. There have been 8,130 recoveries.

Since Friday’s report, there have been no new recoveries, 50 fewer current hospitalizations and 17 fewer ICU cases, which brings the case count below 100.

The city of Corpus Christi website gives a breakdown of COVID-19 cases in the county. The genders are not included in the age range breakdown on the website. 

  • Travel-related — 65
  • Person to person (close contact) — 188
  • Community transmission —  16,274
  • Under investigation — 151
  • Probable positive — 3,301 

Patient status

  • Deaths — 279 (new: 2) 
  • Hospitalized — 810
  • Currently in hospital — 229 (new: -30)
  • In intensive care — 85 (new: -17)
  • Recovered — 8,130*

* The number of people recovered will not be subtracted from the total number of cases, officials have said.
