On Tuesday, four more deaths were reported due to novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) at Sassoon General Hospitals, taking the death toll in the district to 38. Apart from this, 49 new patients tested positive for COVID-19 in Pune district, taking the district total of virus-positive cases to 374.
The first deceased is a 27-year-old man with alcoholic liver disease, who was admitted to the hospital on April 12 after he showed symptoms and succumbed to COVID-19 on April 14. He died due to terminal cardiorespiratory arrest with acute respiratory failure. The second person to lose her life is a 50-year-old woman who was suffering from hypertension and was admitted to the hospital on April 11. She too passed away on April 14 due to terminal cardiorespiratory arrest.
Another deceased is a 42-year-old woman admitted two days back and died due to terminal cardiorespiratory arrest with acute respiratory failure. She was a known case of diabetes and developed bilateral pneumonia and had asthma. The fourth victim is a 77-year-old woman with diabetes, hypertension, hypothyroidism and acute kidney injury. She was admitted on April 2 and succumbed to her ailments on Tuesday.

Apatient from Velha died due cardiac arrest in a private hospital earlier this week and was cremated as per COVID-19 death protocols. His family and close contacts were tested for the infection as well. His wife and brotherin-law tested positive for the virus on Tuesday. Another person who was already undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bhor also tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.
“The patient from Velha who died earlier was a suspected case of COVID-19 and not a confirm one. Therefore, the family members were screened for the virus. The patient from Bhor who has tested positive has been shifted to Aundh district hospital. He is stable at present,” said Dr Bhagwan Pawar, district health officer of Pune district.
According to the state health department, as many as 350 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Tuesday in the state, taking the state tally to 2,684. Some 259 patients were discharged after full recovery until Tuesday. At present, 67,701 people are in home quarantine and 5,687 in institutional quarantine.

PM extends lockdown till May 3
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended the nationwide lockdown for another 19 days till May 3 and proposed certain relaxations after April 20 in places with no hotspots as also which have less likelihood to turn into a hotspot. In a 25-minute televised address on the last day of the ongoing three-week lockdown, he said extensive guidelines on the second phase of the lockdown will be issued on Wednesday, asserting that his biggest priority is to save lives and minimise the hardships being faced by daily wagers and farmers.
